About the Society

Established in January 2024, Parakram – The Sports Society of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Evening College is a student-led platform that encourages the participation of students, teaching faculty, and non-teaching staff in sports and fitness activities.

The society was formed with the goal of promoting a fit, active, and inclusive campus environment and ensuring that sports become a way of life for everyone. Guided by the motto “Strength. Spirit. Sportsmanship.”, Parakram continues to build a culture of enthusiasm, teamwork, and well-being across the college.

Structure & Functioning

Parakram operates under the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Evening College. The society follows a structured leadership model that ensures smooth functioning, accountability, and inclusive participation.

They are supported by Senior and Junior Coordinators and Department Heads, who manage logistics, event planning, and student coordination.

Parakram functions independently from the college sports teams. While the official teams represent the college in competitive tournaments, Parakram focuses on organizing, promoting, and executing sports and fitness activities within the campus for students, faculty, and staff members.

Major Events & Initiatives
  • RANN – The Flagship Sports Event: RANN is the society’s most prominent intra-college sports fest. Open to students, teachers, and non-teaching staff, it features multiple sports and fun competitions. The recent edition achieved a record-breaking 1500+ registrations, making it one of the largest intra-college events in the college’s history.
  • Fitness Week Initiative: A week-long event dedicated to promoting physical fitness through yoga sessions, wellness talks, and health awareness challenges, motivating students to adopt an active lifestyle.
  • Fit India Movement (Foray Initiative): In line with the Fit India Movement by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Parakram conducts fitness drives, campus runs, and wellness programs to encourage a healthier campus culture.
  • Traditional Games of India Initiative: A first-of-its-kind event across Delhi University, this initiative revived India’s indigenous games including Pitthu, Hopscotch, Tug of War, and Dodgeball. Organized entirely by Parakram, this event celebrated India’s traditional sports heritage and received enthusiastic participation from students and staff.
  • Collaboration with Special Olympics Bharat: Parakram collaborated with Special Olympics Bharat to organize an Inclusivity Through Sports Workshop on campus, aimed at fostering understanding, empathy, and unity through participation in various sporting activities.
  • National Sports Day Celebration: Parakram revived the National Sports Day celebrations on campus in association with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and has organized the event for two consecutive years. The society’s efforts were acknowledged with a certificate of recognition for promoting sports and physical education in the institution.
  • Teachers’ & Staff Tournaments: Friendly tournaments organized for teaching and non-teaching staff to ensure inclusive participation and promote community engagement and workplace wellness.
Sports and Games Conducted

Across its events, Parakram has organized and promoted a wide range of sports and games including Chess, Carrom, Table Tennis, Kabaddi, Football, Gully Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball, Leg Cricket, Pitthu, Hopscotch, Tug of War, Dodgeball, and Athletics.

  • First society in Delhi University to successfully organize and implement Indigenous Traditional Games on campus.
  • Organized RANN, the college’s largest-ever intra-college sports event, with 1500+ participants.
  • Collaborated with Special Olympics Bharat to promote inclusivity and awareness through sports.
  • Revived and successfully organized National Sports Day celebrations for two consecutive years, receiving recognition from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
  • Conducted Fitness Week and Fit India Movement programs, promoting overall health and wellness.
