About the Society

Reflection, founded in 2012, is the official Photography and Filmmaking Society of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Evening College. It serves as a platform for creative expression, bringing together students who share a passion for visual storytelling, photography, and cinema.

The society’s purpose is to capture and convey stories that inspire, inform, and provoke thought both within and beyond the college community.

Over the years, Reflection has evolved into a dynamic space for artistic exploration, technical learning, and meaningful collaboration. Every frame holds a narrative, and every click sparks inspiration in the captivating realm of visual storytelling.

Organizational Structure

Reflection operates as a student-led society under Shaheed Bhagat Singh Evening College. The society follows a well-organized structure that balances creative freedom with professional discipline.

The core team consists of the following roles:

  • President – Oversees all operations of Reflection, ensuring smooth coordination across departments. Maintains discipline, supervises events, and handles official documentation of the society.
  • Vice President – Assists the President in managing society activities and departmental coordination. Provides guidance to teams and ensures open communication within the society.
  • Secretary – Manages administrative tasks, maintains records of events and communications, and assists with documentation and coordination across departments.
  • Treasurer – Handles financial records, budgeting, and expense tracking. Coordinates with the PR team on sponsorship finances and ensures transparency in fund management.
  • Joint Secretary – Supports the Secretary in internal coordination and attendance tracking. Maintains communication between departments and assists in smooth event functioning.
  • IT and Graphics Head – Designs digital posters, reels, and promotional content. Ensures Reflection’s visual identity stays modern and cohesive across platforms.
  • Content Head – Oversees caption writing, content curation, and form creation for events. Maintains thematic social media content and coordinates with IT and PR teams.
  • Public Relations (PR) Head – Handles outreach, sponsorships, and collaborations. Promotes Reflection across other institutions and manages professional communication.
  • Filmmaking Head – Leads all film-related projects and short films. Oversees concept development, direction, and editing while ensuring creative quality and participation records.

This collaborative framework ensures that every member develops both artistic and managerial competence, fostering a professional environment for creative growth.

Photowalks

Jump into photography with Reflection’s exciting photowalks, where every step becomes an opportunity to explore creativity. These trips are designed for students to learn, experiment, and capture beautiful moments through their lenses.

Each photowalk focuses on developing photography basics with themes such as portraits, landscapes, vintage styles, black-and-white photography, and vibrant street photography.

Workshops

Reflection regularly conducts workshops and training sessions on technical and creative aspects of photography such as camera handling, editing techniques, composition, and visual storytelling.

On 11 January 2025, an online workshop on the Fundamentals of Photography was conducted by Farzeen Rais, former President of Reflection. The session introduced participants to the core principles of photography including composition, lighting, and camera settings.

Drawing from personal experiences, Farzeen encouraged attendees to view photography not only as a technical skill but also as a powerful medium of storytelling.

Collaborations & Major Events Covered

The collective effort of Reflection members lies at the heart of every initiative. The team actively collaborates with multiple societies and departments to capture and document the vibrant cultural life of the college.

Reflection has collaborated with various societies and institutions including Marqsoc, Creador, IIC, NUKE, Areopagitica, Geography Department, Student Union Fest “Divyotsav 25”, the B.A. Programme Association, and NSS DRC.

These collaborations allow the team to document diverse events across campus while strengthening their skills in event photography, storytelling, and visual documentation.

PHOTONS – Annual Event

Reflection organizes its flagship annual event PHOTONS, celebrating the art of photography and filmmaking through multiple competitions and exhibitions.

Participants were challenged to capture creative visuals and produce short films within a limited time frame, encouraging storytelling through visual media. More than 30 colleges across Delhi participated in the event, making it a vibrant platform for young creatives.

Online Engagement

Reflection actively manages its social media presence to showcase student work and promote photography and filmmaking within the college community.

The team regularly creates engaging reels, participates in social media trends, and highlights student achievements, ensuring that Reflection remains a dynamic digital platform for creative expression.

Achievements & Competition Participation

Throughout the academic year, the society actively engages in numerous photography, photostory, and videography competitions within Delhi University and across other prestigious institutions. Members of Reflection consistently demonstrate creativity, technical expertise, and dedication to the art of visual storytelling.

  • 20 February 2025: Kunal Dabas, Jatin, Lakshay, Satyam, Adarsh, Vanshika – 1st Position in “SHOT READY HAI?” Filmmaking Competition, Jesus and Mary College.
  • 24 February 2025: Satyam, Bhavya, Shivam, Abhishek, Atul, Ayush Patel, Jatin, Chitra – 3rd Position in “LENS EYE” Photography Competition.
  • 26 February 2025: 2nd Prize – Online Photostory Competition, ARSD College.
  • 28 February 2025: Divyanshu, Ayush Patel, Shreya Kwarta, Ashmit, Satyam, Vanshika – 1st Position in “JOSH'25” Photography Competition, Ramanujan College.
  • 01 March 2025: Jas Rais, Jatin, Abhishek, Bhavya, Chetan, Manthan, Kunal – 3rd Position in Filmmaking Competition, PGDAV College.
