Department of Political Science
The Department of Political Science at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Evening College, University of Delhi, was established in 1973 with the aim of fostering critical understanding of politics, governance, and society.
It offers B.A. (Hons.) in Political Science and organizes seminars, webinars, and the annual fest “PRAYUKTI” to enhance students' learning beyond classrooms.
The department aims to create socially aware and responsible individuals inspired by the ideals of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

Functioning of the Department
- The department runs the B.A. (Hons.) in Political Science programme under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) as per Delhi University guidelines.
- Classes are conducted in evening hours (generally between 3 PM to 8 PM).
- The syllabus covers areas like political theory, comparative politics, international relations, and political thought.
- Regular internal assessments, tutorials, presentations, and project work are conducted for continuous evaluation.

- The department actively conducts academic and co-curricular programmes throughout the year.
- Seminars and workshops on contemporary political and social issues.
- Guest lectures by scholars, journalists, and political policy experts.
- Competitions such as debates, essay writing, and quizzes.

Example: The department recently hosted a thought-provoking symposium on “Urban Naxalism and Battle for Mind” on 16th October 2025.
Events
Annual Fest – PRAYUKTI
- PRAYUKTI is the annual departmental fest of Political Science at SBSEC.
- It includes debates, quiz competitions, poster making, creative writing, and pre-screenings.
- It celebrates youth, creativity, and freedom of expression.
- Students from different departments and colleges participate actively.
Publications
The department publishes its magazine “Vichaar” to encourage students to showcase articles, poems, and research papers.
Educational Exposure
To promote experiential learning, the department organizes visits to institutions like the Parliament House and other government bodies, helping students understand real-world governance.
